Advanced, deep, rigorous, multi-disciplinary study

The purpose of the Obermann Cmiel Research Semester is advanced, deep, rigorous, multi-disciplinary study of a topic or research question. Ideally, these exchanges will lead to genuine breakthroughs in the way the discipline of each participant frames and conceptualizes this research topic or problem.  Held at the Obermann Center, Cmiel Research Semesters serve 4-6 UI scholars working on independent research, scholarship, or creative projects related to the Research Semester topic or question. The seminar is named in honor of UI History professor Ken Cmiel, an inspiring and greatly missed scholar, colleague, and collaborator.
