Book Traces Scavenger Hunt — A Digital Bridges workshop with Andrew Stauffer
In the Book Traces Scavenger Hunt workshop led by Digital Bridges visiting scholar Andrew Stauffer, groups will search a given section of the Main Library stacks (usually PR and PS call numbers), looking for interesting marks by original owners in older books. Many books from the nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries will include interesting marginalia, flower pressings, locks of hair, and other objects pressed among the pages. Groups will bring back their best examples to a central “command center,” where they will examine them together, upload some to Book Traces, and have a discussion about what groups are finding. MEET IN ROOM 2032 OF THE MAIN LIBRARY AT 10 FOR A QUICK ORIENTATION.
Hosted by Digital Bridges for Humanistic Inquiry: A Grinnell College/University of Iowa Partnership, with support from the Obermann Center
