Female-only collectives, spaces, gatherings and groups offer their female participants a different perspective. Why do women seek out female-only spaces? Is it sexist to leave males out? What is different about how these collectives operate and what is different about what is offered, learned, or created?

Iowa City based writer, artist, and educator Alea Adigweme moderates a discussion between Teresa Mangum (Director of the Obermann Center for Advanced Studies, U Iowa, and a member of an informal group of women in leadership positions who refer to themselves, tongue in cheek, as the “Women Who Rule”), Katie Roche (musician with the all female group Awful Purdies), Merit Bickner (Girls Rock Iowa City), and poet, activist, playwright and essayist Rachel McKibbens, the 2009 Women of the World Poetry Slam champion, about their experiences.
