Building Communities: Special Collections in the Age of Tumblr and YouTube

A talk presented by Colleen Theisen, Special Collections & Archives.

Collen Theisen, Outreach & Instruction Librarian at UI Special Collections & Archives, has spent the past two years building up an active social media program across multiple sites. This program has led to increased in-person visits, new donations, and international press coverage. The talk will cover the history of her efforts, successes and failures, tips and advice, and an analysis of the unique ways in which Tumblr and YouTube can build communities of young, active fans of education, literature, and the physical book.
