The digital humanities are quickly becoming the humanities. Yet, while digital technologies have become second nature for our students, they remain relatively unique in the projects students create in our classrooms. Tom Keegan and Matt Gilchrist, lecturers in Rhetoric and co-directors of Iowa Digital Engagement and Learning (IDEAL), will discuss the philosophical and pragmatic reasons for adopting 21st century technologies in humanities courses. On Purpose is a project that explores and reflects on the shifting technological and pedagogical landscape of higher education. The project integrates technology and a humanities education to better prepare students for professional and personal creativity in the new century.
