Stars, They're Just Like Us: Digital Amateurs. Fandom and Celebrity in a World of Digital Access

Thursday, October 31, 2013 - 12:30pm
Event Location:
1117 University Capitol Centre, Conference Room A

A talk presented by Jesse McLean, Cinema & Comparative Literature.

Jesse McLean, Professor of Cinema & Comparative Literature, takes a look at how access, through digital tools, has altered perceptions of fandom and celebrity. The prevalence of digital tools, along with the ability to share and distribute creative work easily online, awards an opportunity to consider the role technology, access, criticism and love have in determining the contemporary divide between professionalism and amateurism in media-related arts.

This event is a Studio Talk season (formerly PDH4L), a series of informal lunchtime talks about public digital arts and humanities. For a full schedule, see: http://dsph.uiowa.edu/wpDSPH/studiotalks/
