Loyce Arthur (Theatre Arts, CLAS) will lead this workshop, and another in October, bringing carnaval artists, educators, community members and scholars from Iowa and from around the world to Iowa City to explore the following ideas through art-making including:
o Community-building amongst diverse populations through the carnaval arts.
o The relationship between the carnaval arts and immigrant and migrant populations.
o The process of democratic dialogue about controversial issues, especially race, class, and immigration, and the ways that the carnaval arts can serve as a canvas and mirror for such issues.
o Community involvement to improve the common good through storytelling and the carnaval arts.
