The Triangle Club presents: The Iowa Initiative for Sustainable Communities (IISC), by Chuck Connerly
Charles "Chuck" Connerly is Professor and Director of the School of Urban and Regional Planning at The University of Iowa.
The focus for the talk is the Iowa Initiative for Sustainable Communities (IISC). The faculty of the School of Urban and Regional Planning launched IISC in May 2009 in response to President Sally Mason's April 2008 call for a campus-wide focus on sustainability. The purpose of IISC is to address challenges facing Iowa 's cities and towns including environmental protection, economic development, and equitable development, all of which relate to the overall sustainability of our communities.
Since 2009, approximately 115 graduate students, under the supervision of UI School of Urban and Regional Planning faculty, have completed or are completing 18 sustainability reports and plans in eight Iowa towns and cities. The talk will give details on these projects and the communities they have served.
