The Triangle Club presents: Philanthropy and the History of International Rotary, by Herbert A. Wilson
Herbert Wilson was born in Chicago, IL on Jan. 31, 1928, the last of eight children. He is married to Janice Comstock. They have 4 grown children and 10 grandchildren.
Herbert’s hobbies include tennis and racquetball, singing, flying, and water skiing. He is an avid reader on many subjects and with Janice they have traveled to all seven continents and many nations He is also active in his church, Rotary International, industrial development, the chamber of commerce, and numerous board positions He served in the U. S. Navy in World War II as a pharmacist’s mate, received a commission after completing his BSME (Purdue 1951), and retired as a Lt. Commander from the naval reserve.
Herbert received an MBA degree from the University of Chicago in 1959, and is a registered engineer in several states. He has been an active entrepreneur for many years. He came to Iowa in 1973 to build Iowa’s first steel mill in Wilton, IA.
In 1980 Micro-Surface Finishing Products, Inc. was purchased and Herb became the president. This company, manufacturing abrasives, has grown through the years. Micro-Surface was sold in 2000.
Herb is the founder, owner and president of Startups Unlimited, which was incorporated in 1993 to offer consulting services to individuals wishing to start their own companies. This endeavor has led to board positions and management responsibilities in a number of companies in their developing years.
