What is a Publisher?
Monday, October 21, 2013 - 2:00pm
Iowa Memorial Union: Illinois Room (Room 348)
To commemorate Open Access Week (October 21-27) this year at the University of Iowa, the University Libraries have organized two events featuring Stephen Ramsay, Associate Professor of English and Fellow of the Center for Digital Research in the Humanities at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Open access (OA) initiatives provide free, digital access to writing and scholarship across all genres and disciplines, creating equitable relationships between authors, publishers, and readers, and Open Access Week is an opportunity for the University of Iowa community to discuss the transforming landscape of scholarship. We hope you’ll be able to take part.
Monday, October 21st at 2 pm. Iowa Memorial Union: Illinois Room (Room 348). “What is a Publisher?” A talk by Professor Ramsay on contemporary publishing trends and alternative publishing models.
Tuesday, October 22nd at 3 pm. University Capitol Center: Room 1117. Panel Discussion on Open Access and Scholarly Publishing. Russell Ganim, Director of the Division of World Languages, Literatures & Cultures will moderate the conversation between Professor Ramsay, James McCoy (Director, University of Iowa Press), Professor Colin Gordon (History), Professor Brooks Landon (English), and Assistant Professor Stephen Voyce (English). Refreshments will be served.
