Adriana Méndez Rodenas

Adriana Méndez Rodenas has been teaching at the University of Iowa since 1985.  A specialist in Latin American and Caribbean literature, she is particularly devoted to travel writing, transatlantic studies, and women’s writing.  Her book, Transatlantic Travels to Nineteenth-Century Latin America, is forthcoming from Bucknell University Press this fall.  She has received a number of prestigious awards, including an NEH Fellowship for University Teachers, a Fulbright Distinguished Chair of American Studies at Uppsala University in Sweden, and a Research Fellowship at the Notre Dame Institute for Advanced Studies. Her presentation to the 2014 Iowa Humanities Festival honors her Cuban heritage and reflects her current interest in ecology.
