Julia Oliver Rajan
Julia Oliver Rajan teaches Spanish for heritage speakers in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Iowa. Currently, she is investigating the differences and similarities of written peer review between heritage Spanish speakers and students taking Spanish as a foreign language. Her other areas of interest include the effectiveness of standardized oral proficiency assessments among bilinguals speaking Spanish in the United States and phonological variations in Caribbean Spanish. She has a PhD in Hispanic Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she also coordinated a federally funded project at the College of Education for bilingual children in the Chicago Public Schools. She has taught at a variety of institutions prior to arriving at the University of Iowa.
