Julie Reynolds was born and raised in Aurora, Illinois and received her B.A. in Biology at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL. She enrolled in the University of Iowa’s College of Dentistry, graduated in 2011, and is now a first-year master’s candidate in Dental Public Health. Her research interests include the effects of social determinants, such as family and neighborhood social capital, on the more direct predictors of poor oral health. She works as a dentist part time at a clinic in Cedar Rapids serving low-income adults with special needs and children. As a result of several international experiences, her interests lie in culturally appropriate and sustainable program development through capacity building. She would like to explore oral health-related, community-based participatory research. Julie is also looking forward to collaborative work with other health science professionals in promoting the connection between oral and overall health.
