Katherine Eberle Fink
Katherine Eberle Fink, a mezzo-soprano on the School of Music voice faculty for the past twenty years, will make a concert tour to include MI, MA, IL, MS, and VA and the final creative product will result in a compact disc recording. Her collaborative pianist, UI Professor Ksenia Nosikova, will accompany in performances of music by living American women composers whose songs have not yet been recorded by a mezzo-soprano. In December, Eberle will record a Compact Disc, edit it, and submit the CD to the publisher. The song repertoire will include settings by Juliana Hall, Lori Laitman, Judith Cloud, and Libby Larsen who have all given recording permission. While in residence at the Obermann, Eberle will prepare coursework on the same topic and thus her students will diversify their own repertoire pursuits in assignments for their own study. When teaching Topics in Vocal Performance (025:235) in the 2013, the results of the research done on this project will become the focus of that course. She will write articles on women composers when not rehearsing and performing during the fall semester.
