Kira Pasquesi is a first-year Ph.D. student in the Higher Education and Student Affairs program. She graduated from UI with a B.A. in Elementary Education and from Miami University with an M.S. in College Student Personnel. Before returning to Iowa City, Kira coordinated civic engagement efforts at Colorado College. She taught community organizing theory and practice to student activists and supported faculty in community-based learning and research. In her role, Kira organized a Public Achievement program with a partnering school district, in which college students “coach” cooperative teams of underrepresented middle or high school students to address issues of concern and create student-led social action projects. Kira is also passionate about community dialogue and is a trained facilitator in the Everyday Democracy 'dialogue to action' process. She has facilitated dialogue on important neighborhood issues that inspired new citizen-driven initiatives and influenced the decisions of elected officials. Her current research interests include the civic mission of higher education, student civic agency, and democratic community partnerships.
