Sara Hanson is a fifth year Ph.D. candidate in the Interdisciplinary Program in Genetics. She earned her B.S. in Biology and Chemistry from Buena Vista University. At the University of Iowa, she has two semesters of experience as a teaching assistant and has served as an instructor for the Honors Primetime Workshop. Sara has a great interest in promoting K-12 science education, and has led workshops for middle school students at the STEM symposium and Go! Girls STEM Day at Iowa. She also co-initiated Biology Research Exploration Day to help high school and undergraduate students learn about research careers in the life sciences. She hopes to continue her outreach efforts by establishing a network through which local K-12 educators and active scientists at the University of Iowa can connect to enhance science education.
