For eighteen years, this interdisciplinary conference has welcomed presenters from universities across the country, around the globe, and it has given students from the University of Iowa the opportunity to present their own scholarly and creative work to their peers and colleagues in a variety of disciplines. This tradition of interdisciplinary research and production continues with our nineteenth annual conference, entitled “Craft Critique Culture: Speaking of Violence…”
This year’s conference will be held on April 4-6, 2019. Highlights will include a keynote presentation by Dr. Jack Halberstam, Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University. Dr. Halberstam specializes in cultural and gender studies, queer and feminist theory, visual and popular culture, and also film and video. We will also feature Dr. Marie Kruger as our plenary speaker, and have invited Carleen Maur to show her most recent film. Every event is open to the public.
Hosted by the UI Department of English, with support from the Obermann Center for Advanced Studies
