Internship: Coralville Community Food Pantry
Internship Focus: Supporting equitable policy for local food entrepreneurs

The Coralville Community Food Pantry is an anti-hunger nonprofit organization providing critical and innovative food assistance services to the greater Coralville community. We believe that food is a human right and that food has the power to bring people together. Our vision is to build a stronger, healthier, and hunger-free community.
About the internship:
Explore the need for and feasibility of a food entrepreneurship policy and infrastructure in Coralville for BIPOC, immigrant, and otherwise marginalized communities. Intern will work to make connections with existing and potential food entrepreneurs, local organizations, and policy makers. Different aspects of the project may include:

Food truck ordinance: research other municipal food truck ordinances, draft a review of other policies that can be used to advocate for more inclusive food truck policy in Coralville

Community building and assessing needs: convene food truck owners and potential owners for focus groups and discussion

Community resource sharing: assist with developing a system for shared use of a commercially licensed kitchen by food truck owners and other food entrepreneurs
Additional projects could include:

Research with food pantry members to identify needs and help connect them to additional resources
Responsibilities may include:

Researching food truck policies in other cities

Analyzing policies and writing reports for pantry staff and city officials

Community outreach with potential food truck owners and food pantry members

Facilitating conversations with potential owners
Qualifications and skills preferred:

Working with diverse populations in a community setting

Experience with interviewing and facilitating conversations among diverse groups

Experience developing simple questionnaires or willingness to learn

Passion for food and building equitable communities
