Eighteen UI graduate students from across campus, representing four different colleges, have been selected for the seventh annual Obermann Graduate Institute on Engagement and the Academy. This year's co-directors, Carolyn Colvin (Teaching & Learning) and Charles Connerly (Urban & Regional Planning), and Senior Graduate Fellow Eric Zimmer (History) will lead the weeklong program from January 14-18, 2013. The Institute offers a competitively selected group of UI graduate students an opportunity to explore how civic engagement can enhance teaching, research, and creative work. It is also a rare opportunity for students to share ideas and experiences with peers they would not otherwise meet. As a 2011 Obermann Graduate Fellow Monica Brasile (pictured second from left during a panel at last year's Institute) notes, “One of the best things about the Institute is the simple presence of so many passionate people with great ideas and with practical plans to make them a reality.”
